When you think of Santorini, what comes to mind? If you pictured whitewashed houses with blue shutters, then you must be imagining the beautiful village of Oia. Perched on the northwest edge of the caldera, Oia is a maze of narrow streets, renovated cave houses and small squares. This town used to be a cluster of seamen houses, but now hosts thousands of tourists each year wanting to experience its breathtaking ocean views and take photos of one of the most iconic landscapes in all of Greece.

Does jumping in to crystal clear Mediterranean waters surrounded by the striking cliff faces of Santorini sound like your cup of tea? Well then you HAVE TO check out this incredible swimming spot at Amoudi Bay. It was honestly one of the best things I did during my stay in Santorini. You can swim straight off the rocks, or if you are game, climb up the stairs of the massive boulder in the water and do your best dive in!
#3 Take a Donkey ride in Fira

Donkeys in Santorini are an integral part of the local tourism scene, providing tourists much-appreciated rides up and down the 588 steps leading down to the old harbor of Fira. There are hundreds of donkeys and mules lined up along the way.
#4 Visit Perissa Beach

Perissa is the best swimming beach on Santorini and has the nicest sand. Good restaurants are spread along the beach front. Perissa is about a 30 minute drive from Fira and 45 minutes from Oia.
#5 Hire a quad bike and drive around the island

What funner way to explore this beautiful island then cruising down the roads with the wind in your hair!? Hiring a quad bike (or ATV) for a day is surprisingly cheap (around 15€ for the day plus fuel), and will only require you to have a standard license. Its a great way to discover areas that aren’t accessible by bus and to feel super cool while you’re at it. If you are nervous about driving on busy foreign roads, drive down to the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa. Its a super easy drive with virtually no traffic. Just you and the open road!
#6 Visit Ancient Thera and Akrotiri

Akrotiri is a Minoan Age settlement buried by the widespread Theran eruption in the middle of the second millennium BC. As a result, it is remarkably well-preserved. Ancient Thera, an ancient city built circa 800 BC from the Spartans, which named the island after their commander. From that point the view is amazing while surrounded by the Royal Arch, the ruins of Artemidoros Temple, the Ancient Agora, Temple of Dionysus, Temple of Apollo Karneios, ancient burial grounds and a Theater.
#7 Jump off a boat in to hot springs

Picture this. You’re on a boat. You dive off into the cool Mediterranean ocean. You swim about twenty meters and suddenly, the water changes color and temperature and you’ve just swam in to hot springs. Ah-mazing. This is just another one of those unique things you HAVE to do during your stay in Santorini.
#8 Experience the REAL meaning of dinner with a view

It’s not every day you have the option of dining with arguably one of the best views in the world… So even if you’re on a budget, choose at least one night to splurge a little at one of the many restaurants overlooking the ocean! Time your reservation for sunset and prepare to have your mind (and hopefully tastebuds) blown.
#9 Explore the Santorini Countryside

This is one of the advantages of renting a car – you can out from the main towns and explore the beautiful Santorini countryside. The island’s small – you can almost always see the sea – but there are lots of farmland (especially in the south) and you can’t drive for very long without stumbling across a winery.
#10 Enjoy the most famous sunset in the world

Watching the sunset at Oia is on every ‘top 10 things to do in Santorini’ list and in every destination guide you’ll find. There isn’t many crowds that erupt in a round of applause once the sun makes its final descent beneath the ocean. This is one of those pinch-yourself kind of moments, one that you are going to remember for the rest of your life.
